How to use Ledger
A five-minute tour of everything Ledger can do — reading, study tools, prayer, plans, streaks, and grades.
1. Read the Bible
Open Read the Bible and pick a translation, book, and chapter from the dropdowns. Verses appear in large, easy-to-read text — Jesus' words are shown in red. Tap Listen to have the chapter read aloud, and tap any verse to open its study panel with commentary, cross-references, word helps, and a Listen to study option.
2. Mark chapters as read
When you finish a chapter, tap the big Mark as read button. The chapter is saved to that day on your calendar. Tap any day on the calendar to see everything you did — chapters read, study notes, highlights, and prayer — and you can edit your notes right there.
3. Highlight and take study notes
Tap a verse in the reader to highlight it in five colors or attach a study note. Highlights and notes are automatically added to your notes for that calendar day, so nothing you study gets lost.
4. Pray with the prayer box
On the calendar day view, use the prayer box. Choose Pray silently, Speak it out (your words are written down as you talk), or Write it to type your prayer. Your time is counted quietly in the background — no clock on screen — and saved when you tap Finish.
5. Understand your grade
Each day earns a grade from your effort: chapters read, study notes and highlights, and minutes prayed. Your best day of the month sets the bar (never below a gentle starting level: about 2 chapters, a couple of notes or highlights, and 5 minutes of prayer). Match the bar for an A, beat it and the bar rises for the rest of the month. See the full breakdown on your tracker.
6. Follow a reading plan
Not sure what to read next? Open Reading plans and start the whole-Bible plan, the New Testament plan, or the chronological plan. Each day tells you exactly which chapters to read. New to the Bible entirely? Where to start suggests a simple first month.
7. Keep your streak alive
Read at least one chapter a day to grow your streak, shown on the calendar. Miss a day and it resets — the streak is your friendly nudge to stay in the Word daily.
Handy extras
- Use the menu (top right) for Backup to export your reading history, notes, and highlights.
- Browse Topics to find verses by subject, and the dictionary for people and places.
- Switch translations any time in the reader — KJV, ESV, NIV, NASB, and more.
- Install Ledger on your phone from the About page for one-tap access from your home screen.
